Four Types of Content: Recipes, Books, Photos and Videos
The Salty Fig site is based around recipes. You can attach photos and videos to recipes, and you can collect recipes into books.
Four Sources for Content: House, Shared, Figged and My
When you browse Salty Fig's content, you'll see it organized into tabs for House, Shared, Figged and My:
- "House" content was developed by Salty Fig for you to use.
- "Shared" content was added by other Salty Fig users and marked as "shared" so you can use it.
- "Figged" content was bookmarked by you for future reference. You can "fig" content on the Salty Fig site or on "Fig it friendly" blogs by clicking the "Fig it!" button.
- "My" content was created by you and manually added to your account. You may choose to keep this content private or share it with other users.
Entering Your Own Recipes
- Enter your original recipe manually.
- You can attach one or more photographs to a recipe. You can either upload a new photo from your computer, or select a photo from the Photo Gallery, which includes photos of your own that you uploaded previously. To remove a photo from a recipe, you can click the Delete button on its thumbnail.
- Click the "include a scan or photo" link to add an image of an heirloom recipe card or a wine label. You can still use the Content field to add comments about your recipe.
- Use the Tags field to categorize the recipe for quick access later. Salty Fig provides you with some tagging suggestions, but you can also add your own in the Other field.
- All your work on Salty Fig is saved privately unless you choose to share it. Clicking the Share button allows other users on Salty Fig to see it and "fig it" to their account.

- Click the Save button, and a book preview page will appear. This is similar to what other users will see if you have shared your book.
Publishing Pro E-books
You can share the books you create on the Salty Fig site for free. To sell your books in the Salty Fig shop, in the Amazon or Apple bookstores, or your own website, you can upgrade your book to a Pro book with several export options.
- First, you must buy some book publishing credits. You can do this from the Publish Recipe Books button in the site header, or from the shortcut link on the Edit Book page.
- When you have some credits in your account, you can edit one of your books and click the Apply a Credit link in the Pro Features section. The page will reload with this section activated.
- After upgrading, you can customize the appearance of your book by clicking the Theme Gallery button and choosing a different theme.
- To sell your book in the Salty Fig shop, click the Shop Setup link to accept our shop sales agreement. When you return to this page, you'll see a Price field where you can enter the sale price for your book.
- At the bottom of the Pro Features section, you'll see links to export your book in various formats, for selling on other sites. You can click the (?) button above the links for more details about these formats.
