Serving suggestions
Trick or treat? This recipe stands apart from any dried plum recipe we’ve seen. We don’t recommend this 1898 recipe to the picky eater, but we do recommend reading how unusual the flavor combinations are!

Stone equal number of large prunes and ripe or green olives; fill the olives with cut-up sardine or anchovy and capers; stuff the prunes with the olives and enfold each in a thin strip of bacon tied on with thread.*
*thread=baker’s twine; food-safe butcher’s string; kitchen string
Bake until crisp, then remove thread and serve on pieces of buttered toast.
An added curiosity:
Place on disks of toast spread with Parmesan butter.
